5 Ways You Can Help Eliminate Brain Fog

Your brain is the center of everything that happens in your body. It never takes a day off, so it’s important to help it stay young and healthy for as long as possible. Here are five ways you can help your brain work better.

  1. Drink more water

If you feel confused, unable to focus, or irritable, lack of water may be to blame. It’s easy to forget how much water our bodies and our brains need. The brain is made up of over 70% water, which means it needs to be replenished often. When you wake up, make sure you drink a couple of glasses of water before you reach for the coffee. This will help to replace the water you lost while you were sleeping. Make sure you keep a bottle of with you at all times so you can sip throughout the day. It’s okay to enjoy coffee and other drinks now and then, but water should be your number one beverage of choice.

  1. Put down your phone

If you want to help your brain focus better, you have to stop doing ten things at a time. When you’re working on homework or something for work, set your phone aside and focus on the task at hand. Every time you pick up your phone, it takes time for your brain to get back focusing on the original task. Instead of picking up your phone every five minutes, give yourself a short break every thirty to sixty minutes. If you work from home, don’t turn on the TV while you work as it will only draw your attention away from your work. Your brain can only do so much at once. If you want to help your brain work better, stop overloading it with so much at one time.

  1. Get your omega-3 fatty acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are important for the functioning of your brain; they play a role in focus and mental clarity. Omega-3 deficiency may lead to depression, brain fog, and poor memory. You can get an adequate amount of omega-3s by eating herring, mackerel, sardines, and salmon. If you’re not a fan of fish, other sources include flax seeds, olive oil, walnuts, navy beans, and tofu.

  1. Get enough sleep

Sleep is essential for helping to keep your brain working its best. It needs this time to organize your memories and clear out waste that has gathered between the brain cells during the day. This cleaning may be beneficial in the long run for preventing diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Lack of sleep can lead to impaired learning, difficulty making decisions, and elevated serotonin, which leads to depression.

  1. Stimulate your brain

How many times have you watched the same episode of your favorite show? You probably know the lines better than the actors themselves. When was the last time you sat down and learned something new? Or read a book? It’s important to expose yourself to new things on a regular basis. Your brain craves new things. Instead of watching that same episode for the fourth time, pick up a book or a magazine. Whenever you’re curious about something, research it. Even trying a new activity is good for your brain. Learn how to knit or speak another language. This will help stimulate your brain and keep it young.

Your brain is responsible for everything that happens in your body. It needs to be taken care of so that it can function at its best for as long as possible.
